What is a Hawk's Eye Stone?
Hawk's Eye is a semiprecious stone that is a variety of chatoyant quartz with intense blue-green colors, caused by unaltered crocidolite fibers. This gem is cut into cabochon and sometimes very lightly faceted to highlight its deep blue and green reflections. The largest deposits are in South Africa, but they can also be found in India, Myanmar, Western Australia, and to a lesser extent in the United States. Its unique appearance makes it a sought-after stone in jewelry at a reasonable cost. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
