What is a Tanzanite Stone?
Tanzanite is a fine gemstone (formerly known as a "semi-precious stone"). It is the most well-known and rare variety of zoisite. Blue to violet in color, with a magnificent luster and shades that play with light, this gemstone was discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, its only deposit in the world. Its variations from sapphire blue to intense violet have made this recent gemstone one of the most sought-after stones in jewelry. It has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale.
