Aventurine: History, Origin, Composition, Virtues, Significance and Recharging of the stone
Aventurine is a fine green stone of the quartz variety. It has inclusions that differentiate it from other green stones. By adding certain compositions, its color can drift to blue, red/brown or yellow. Its virtues in lithotherapy are highly appreciated, notably for its ocular acuity and skin properties.
History of Aventurine
Aventurine from the Italian "per aventura" means "by chance". The term was coined when, in 1700, an Italian glassmaker inadvertently dropped copper filings into molten glass. From this mixture, a new crystal was created called verre aventuriné, which later gave its name to the Aventurine stone, due to their strong resemblance. Aventurine was known as Prase before it was officially renamed Aventurine.
Aventurine has an exciting history, with its first documented use dating back over 4,000 years to China. It was already very popular there due to its association with royalty and the Guanyin Pusa deity representing mercy, love and health; giving it the name of the "Yù imperial stone". The Chinese believed they could receive vitality and well-being from this stone, either by drinking an Aventurine elixir or by wearing a protective talisman against the forces of evil.
Like the Chinese, the Etruscans gave Aventurine a divine purpose and linked the stone to their goddess of childbirth, Thalna.
Around 2,000 years earlier, the Incas used Aventurine as a good-luck charm for wealth and fortune.
The Tibetans used it for sculptures, especially for the eyes of statues, and for lithotherapy. It was used as a talisman to improve perception and prevent optic loss.
The Celts associated Aventurine with the symbol of spirituality and knowledge.
Finally, during the 19th century, Russians used Aventurine as a decorative stone for vases, art objects and jewelry.

Origin and composition of Aventurine stone
Aventurine is a beautiful, light-green stone with fine fuschite inclusions. Its main composition is silicon dioxide (SiO2). Its density varies between 2.63 and 2.69, depending on the type of Aventurine. This stone, which is actually a type of quartz, can show bands and spots of color, which differentiates it from Jade or Agate.
Aventurine is formed within magmatic rocks (pegmatites) and/or hydrothermal veins.
The color and stains present in Aventurine vary from one variety to another, making the stone lively and brilliant. The most common inclusions are mica and hematite, which create its red-brown color. Aventurine's green hue is due to the presence of fuchsite. While dumortierite gives blue varieties of Aventurine, they are very rare to find.
