Rhyolite: History, Origin, Composition, Virtues, Meaning and Refill of the stone
Rhyolite is a member of the Volcanic Rock family. Due to its more unusual mineral composition, this natural stone has no unique chemical formula. Nonetheless, Rhyolite remains a favorite with jewelers for its nuances of color; but not only that, lithotherapy enthusiasts love it for its versatile benefits.
History of Rhyolite
The name Rhyolite comes from the Greek "rheîn" meaning "to flow" and "lithos" meaning "stone".
There isn't much information on Rhyolite, apart from the fact that the natural stone dates back several million years.
Rhyolite can be found in a number of constructions, including buildings, sculptures and monuments. In recent years, however, it has come to be used mainly in jewelry and in the world of lithotherapy for its beneficial properties.
Origin and composition of Rhyolite
Rhyolite belongs to the Volcanic Rock family, more precisely to the extrusive igneous volcanic rocks. Rhyolite varies according to the minerals it contains, but in most cases this natural stone is composed of over 70% silica. Quartz and feldspar can also be found. Rhyolite has a density of around 2.3 to 2.6.
This natural stone is formed from viscous, silica-rich lava during volcanic eruptions. Once cooled, the lava crystallizes, allowing Rhyolite to develop.
Rhyolite comes in a variety of colors, depending on the geographic location that determines the composition of the rock and its minerals. It can be found in shades of red, brown, green, yellow to orange and sometimes from light gray to pink. This natural stone is generally opaque due to its high silica content.
Origin of Rhyolite
The main deposits of Rhyolite are in the United States and Australia. It can also be found in European countries such as France, Germany and Iceland, and in Asian countries such as China and India.
Rhyolite's hardness is between 6 and 7 on the Mohs scale.
