Rhodonite comes from the Pyroxenoid family. It is mainly composed of manganese metasilicate, with the chemical formula MnSiO3. Rhodonite's specific gravity ranges from 3.4 to 3.7.

Rhodonite generally forms in metamorphic rocks and metasomatic deposits. In metamorphic rocks, natural stone is formed as a function of temperature and high pressure. In metasomatic deposits, rhodonite is formed between the minerals in a rock and the surrounding fluids, which trigger a chemical reaction that changes the rock's mineralogical composition.

Rhodonite has an opaque reddish-pink hue most of the time, but its color can vary depending on the inclusions, which give it a pale pink to dark red hue.
