Prehnite: History, Origin, Composition, Virtues, Meaning and Refill of the stone
Prehnite is a stone from the Silicate family. This natural stone offers vitreous sparkles in springtime colors, from light green to yellow-green. Although Prehnite is not well documented, it is nonetheless appreciated in the world of lithotherapy for its beneficial properties and, above all, for its beauty, and is widely used in jewelry.
History of Prehnite
Prehnite takes its name from Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch mineralogist who first discovered the stone in 1774, at the Cape of Good Hope. However, the name "prehnite" was not coined until 1783 by German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner. Later, it was discovered that the stone had already been reported in 1771 by a French astronomer, Alexis-Marie de Rochon. It was then analyzed by French mineralogist Balthazar Georges Sage. He gave it the name "Cape Chrysolite", but this name has now been banned and only Prehnite is used to name the stone.
The history of Prehnite is not very rich, due to the paucity of documentation. Prehnite was considered a rare stone by the shamans of South Africa. They were already using the stone for its virtues in lithotherapy, including for decision-making to guide their people.
For the Aborigines of Australia, the stone was used for protection against nocturnal monsters and for warmth by absorbing the sun's heat.
Origin and composition of Prehnite
Prehnite natural stone is a member of the Silicate family, particularly the calcium silicates. The stone is mainly composed of calcium, aluminum, silicon and oxygen, with the chemical formula Ca2Al2Si3O10(OH)2. Prehnite's density can vary between 2.8 and 2.95.
Prehnite forms in magmatic and metamorphic rocks, and in hydrothermal alteration zones such as hydrothermal fluids. Prehnite forms in silica and calcium-rich magma. Minerals such as calcium and aluminum mix with hydrothermal fluids, crystallize and form Prehnite.
Prehnite is best known for its pale green color, but blue and yellow varieties are also available.
Origin of Prehnite
Prehnite's main deposits are found in South Africa, Australia, China, India, Scotland and the USA.
Prehnite's hardness is 6 on the Mohs scale.

Prehnite care, purification and recharging
To care for your Prehnite, it's advisable to take good care of it, and we suggest a few methods:
Prehnite cleaning and purification
Once you've collected your natural Prehnite stone, it's time to clean and purify it:
- Clean under running water for a few minutes,
- Purify with soil, by burying the stone for one or two days, or with fumigation, by leaving the stone in the smoke of your purifying herbs for a few minutes,
- Thanks to the sun's rays, while taking care with heat and exposure, Prehnite remains a fragile stone that can discolor depending on the length of time it is exposed to the sun.
Recharging Prehnite
It's not enough to clean and purify your Prehnite, it also needs to be recharged to release its full powers:
- Recharge your natural stone with lunar rays during a full moon (a few hours) and/or a normal night (all night),
- Place a cluster of quartz next to the Prehnite.
