Description

Introduction to Pearls

Whether natural pearls or modern cultured pearls, pearls are a gemstone that has probably always been prized, and they come in a wide range of colors. The colors we are most familiar with are white and cream (light tan). Black, gray and silver pearls are also common, but there is a pearl in almost every color. The primary color (body color) of a pearl is often altered by additional colors (overtones), which are often pink (sometimes called pinks), green, purple or blue. Some pearls exhibit iridescence, a phenomenon known as pearlescence.
Cultured pearls are often used in pearl necklaces and bracelets, or set in single stone rings, pairs or clusters of earrings, rings or pendants.
